James Barney

James grew up in Koosharem and is happy to be back here raising his family and teaching at Sorenson's Ranch School. Upon graduating from Piute High School, James spent 4 years in the United States Army; he was stationed in Germany and served multiple deployments. After honorably serving his country, James returned to Utah where he began taking college courses at Snow College. Before finishing college, James met his future wife, Brandi, through a mutual friend. Marrying is wife and starting a family with her is his greatest accomplishment.

James has always had a strong desire to help others and to share his experiences with them. This internal aspiration was his driving motivation to become a teacher. James earned his B.S. in history from Utah State University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. While finishing his degree and teaching certificate, James worked here at S.R.S. as a substituted teacher and an activity staff. He currently teaches geography, world civilizations, and P.E. James also has a teaching endorsement in English and is often helping students with their writing.

James has a lifelong love for sports of all kinds. He is especially passionate about basketball, and he enjoys sharing his knowledge of the game with his students. You can often find him working with them on their fundamentals and developing their teamwork skills, during his P.E. classes.

Outside of work, James loves spending time with his wonderful family; they appreciate the beautiful outdoors and plan many of their activities enjoying nature. During the summer, they are often found camping in the surrounding areas. James is also deeply involved in the community and he relishes in opportunities to serve his neighbors.
