OCTAVIA HORTON
STUDENT ACCOUNTABILITY SUPERVISOR

Octavia Horton Octavia lives in Richfield, Utah, which is located about 30 miles from Koosharem. Octavia was born and raised in the neighboring town of Greenwich. Octavia often reflects on her childhood memories of growing up on a ranch where she learned as much from the demanding chores as she did from her time in the classroom. Everything from milking cows to long rides on a bus to a school that is almost an hour away, staying late to participate in school programs, moving sprinklers, mending fences, and riding horses to move cows on the mountain are just a few of her childhood memories.

Octavia has been part of the Sorensonís program for over 19 years. She started out as an activity staff, and quickly evolved into a case manager due to her talents in working with young people. Later, she became an evening shift supervisor. For the past several years Octavia has served our program as the Student Accountability Supervisor. Her primary role is to help students learn consequences of their behavior. Octavia is firm enough to hold our students accountable for their actions, and soft enough to show she genuinely cares for them. Octavia is also a licensed cosmetologist and finds time to cut and style hair for students.

Octavia is the mother of four beautiful children who are very active and outgoing. Her husband is a Law Enforcement Officer in Richfield and she operates her own beauty salon part time. When Octavia is not working you will find her in the outdoors. Her hobbies include camping, fishing, riding horses, and playing in the water with her boat – just about anything to enjoy time with her family. Octavia has a beautiful voice, and in recent years has found a few quiet moments to learn how to play the guitar, adding another dimension to an amazing person.
