STACY WHITMORE
TEACHER

Stacy Whitmore

Stacy (Ace) Whitmore loves to teach. Math, Music, Paragliding, Skiing, Biking, Outdoor adventures, Fitness, Computer programing, and Roller Skating are a few of the things he loves to teach. His quest is to help tomorrow's leaders learn how to reason, think, master, succeed and enjoy hard things.

He has taught for 22 years in public, private and charter schools. He received his Associate degree in computer programing from the University of Utah, where he played the tuba, on a marching band scholarship. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education and mathematics from Southern Utah University, where he met and married the love of his life, 'Judy'. He received his Master's degree in Math education from BYU, while teaching at Wayne County High School.

In addition to his teaching career, he has owned and operated several businesses, including, cleaning businesses in Cedar City, Grantsville and Richfield, a Roller Skating Rink in Elsinore, a water slide in Richfield, and he currently does paragliding instruction and tours. He is a ski instructor on weekends and holidays in the winter, and he hosts 2 major hang gliding and paragliding fly in's each year. There are many math applications from these experiences that he can use to help students apply the mathematics used in class.

The most important thing in his life is his family, He and Judy have 4 boys and 2 girls. His favorite thing is getting together with the family to sing, explore the outdoors, or create interesting pancake creations.

As the math teacher at Sorenson's, he emphasizes understanding over memorization, and application over mindless procedure. If a student can succeed at hard things that they didn't think they could master in the math classroom, they can gain the confidence that will help them succeed at the hard things that life will throw at them.
